Deceased deer, stolen sign, found phone | San Juan County Sheriff’s Log

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

June 3

• Orcas deputies responded to a report of a trespassing. The suspect received a trespass warning letter.

• San Juan deputies responded to a death investigation. It appeared the male died of natural causes and no crime is suspected at this time. A report was made and forwarded to the coroner.

• An Orcas Island resident reported that an anchor was taken from his moored boat.

• A Lopez deputy received a malicious mischief complaint from a Decatur Island resident. The maliciousness was on a public road located on the resident’s property. The matter was resolved after the victim subsequently declined to pursue a criminal complaint.

• Deputies on Orcas investigated a possible burglary. The situation appeared to be a civil landlord-tenant dispute.

June 4

• A unleashed dog on Lopez received minor injuries after being struck by a car.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a single-vehicle wreck in Moran State Park and filed a report.

• A deputy on San Juan issued a driver a citation for traveling 60 mph in a 45 mph zone.

• A San Juan deputy arrested a driver for driving with a revoked or suspended license in the first degree. The driver was released with a citation for the original charge; for not having an ignition interlock; and for failing to have insurance.

June 5

• A San Juan deputy issued tickets to vessel owners who failed to obtain permits for the San Juan County Dock.

• A deputy on Orcas received a request to contact Child Protective Services about a complaint.

• On Orcas, a deputy responded to a report of domestic violence. An investigation determined that no crime had occurred and a report was filed.

• A Lopez deputy was called to look at the damage sustained to a local marina dock. While information was provided by the boater in order to make repairs, a report was also completed.

• A Lopez deputy was called about an obvious scam email. The caller was advised to route these to their spam folder and never provide personal information.

• A San Juan deputy observed someone with a suspended driver’s license driving in Friday Harbor. A citation was issued to the driver for driving with a suspended license in the second degree.

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a report of domestic violence. The investigation found it was verbal only and that no crime had been committed.

• A deputy on Orcas issued a driver a citation for speeding 40 mph in a 25 mph zone.

• A deputy on San Juan issued a driver a citation for traveling 45 mph in a 25 mph zone.

June 6

• A Lopez Island resident turned in a cell phone found along an island roadway. A deputy logged it in as found property pending identification of its rightful owner.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a stolen sign and contacted the complainant.

• A deputy responded to a fraud complaint on Orcas and completed a report.

• A Lopez deputy checked the village after seeing a suspicious male lurking about during the late-night hours.

June 7

• A Lopez deputy was called about a landlord-tenant dispute.

• A deputy took a report of a found wallet in Friday Harbor. A short time later the owner of the wallet came into the station and the wallet with its contents was returned to the owner.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for having an expired registration. The driver was issued a citation for not having insurance.

• A deputy on Orcas took a report of unemployment fraud.

June 8

• A Lopez deputy was called to euthanize an injured deer that had been struck by a car. The deer was dead when the deputy arrived and Public Works was called to remove the deceased deer from the roadside.

• A deputy on Lopez was called regarding an injured deer in the road. The deer was gone when the deputy arrived.

• A deputy was contacted about harassing phone calls received in the Friday Harbor area. The caller and his family had been receiving threatening calls from a known person for two years. The caller was told how to obtain a civil order.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of an assault. A subject was arrested for assault in the fourth degree and for obstructing a law enforcement officer.

• After receiving a 911 hang-up call, a deputy on Lopez checked in with a village business. No problems were discovered.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor was contacted about possible theft. The person making the report thought someone might be using their

utilities without permission and requested additional area checks.

• A deputy responded to a burglary and property damage incident at the Lopez Island Academy. Evidence at the scene indicated juveniles were likely involved.

• A deputy was dispatched to a business problem in Friday Harbor. There, the deputy issued a customer a trespass letter from the property.

• A Lopez deputy completed a report documenting the latest incident in a long-running feud involving a homeowner and their homeowners’ association.

• A deputy on San Juan issued a driver a citation for traveling 63 mph in a 45 mph zone.

• A Lopez deputy completed a missing person report.

June 9

• A deputy conducted a welfare check in Friday Harbor. The deputy spoke with the male involved, found he was not in need of assistance and not a danger to himself or others

• A Lopez deputy assisted a resident with a broken down vehicle that was partially blocking an intersection.

• A San Juan deputy issued a driver a citation for speeding.
