Deadline draws near for national monument advisory committee nominations

The Bureau of Land Management is seeking people to serve on the San Juan Islands National Monument Resource Advisory Committee.

The Bureau of Land Management is seeking people to serve on the San Juan Islands National Monument Resource Advisory Committee.

The committee will help to develop a management plan for the newly established national monument. Deadline for nominations is Monday, March 24.

Nominations can be made for 12 positions on the committee in the following categories: recreation and tourism, wildlife and ecological interests, cultural and heritage interests, tribal interests, local government, education and interpretative interests, private landowners and the public at large.

You can nominate yourself or someone you know by sending a nomination form and at least one letter of recommendation to the BLM District Office, attn: San Juan Islands RAC, 1103 Fancher Road, Spokane, WA, 98212.

Nomination forms are available at the BLM office on Lopez Island, 37 Washburn Pl., or by calling 509-536-1200, or by visiting the BLM website at, www.blm.gov/or/rac/sanjuanac.php.

Be sure to identify which category that a nominee is seeking to fill.
