The San Juan County Sheriff’s office responded to the following calls.

June 1

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a motorcycle for traveling 59 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The rider was issued a citation for speeding and received multiple warnings.

• A deputy responded to a walk-in report of a cell phone found at Linde Park approximately two to three weeks ago. The phone is an un-initialized phone and an owner was unable to be located. The phone was entered into the property room per policy.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a possible theft call. After an investigation was completed, no victim came forward, and the item was returned.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a collision involving a motor scooter on Roche Harbor Road. The driver was transported to the hospital for evaluation. No other parties were involved.

June 2

• An Orcas deputy investigated a theft and recovery of a Yamaha Quad ATV.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle because the driver was not wearing a safety belt. The driver was issued citations for an improperly fastened safety belt and for not having a driver’s license on their person.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of vandalism. There are no workable leads or suspects.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a request for a welfare check. The subject was located and appeared to have passed away due to natural causes.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a medical issue in the jail. An inmate was transported by EMS to the hospital and eventually released back to custody.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a domestic incident. Though no crime had been committed, one of the involved parties agreed to leave for the night.

June 3

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle and issued them a citation for speeding 64 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone.

• A deputy responded to a found property call in Friday Harbor. A local restaurant called to report a credit card left at the business. The owner of the card was not located and was not in local files. The card was entered into the property room per policy.

• A Lopez resident reported the theft of eggs and cash from their farm stand.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop on Mt. Baker Road and issued the driver a citation for speeding 50 mph in a posted 35 mph zone.

• A deputy responded to a disorderly conduct call in Eastsound. The reporting party had a witness who called to report a citizen had possibly damaged some of the new construction on Prune Alley. The case is ongoing.

• One San Juan, a deputy was dispatched to a safekeeping call because the person was turning in weapons per a court order. The items were taken and entered into evidence.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle on Bailer Hill Road for speeding and issued them a citation for traveling 78 mph in a 45 mph zone.

June 4

• A deputy was dispatched to a domestic incident in the Friday Harbor area. When the deputy arrived and contacted the people involved, the incident was found to be a verbal argument and the people agreed to separate for the night.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a report of garbage falling out of a large truck as it was heading to the ferry. The investigation revealed a few small pieces of paper were found on the road. The unknown truck was not found and is suspected to have boarded the ferry.

• Deputies and school staff investigated a burglary at Lopez school that involved the theft of several computers.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of vandalism where a speed limit sign was spray painted. There are no workable leads or suspects at this time.

• On San Juan, Aa deputy responded to a parking violation involving a vehicle that was parked blocking the driveway of a business. A citation was issued for the parking violation.

• A deputy was contacted by a citizen on Orcas who had lost her purse.

• An Orcas deputy investigated the report of a stolen motorcycle. The motorcycle was located and recovered, and a suspect was arrested for theft.

• Deputies took a report after a man walked onto a Lopez citizen’s property to inquire about purchasing a neighboring property. The reporting party believed the man’s behavior was unusual and suspicious.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a communications call. An Orcas citizen was being bombarded by phone calls from a man claiming he works at Amazon, asking for information. The deputy suggested the citizen not provide any information and block all contact with the caller.

• A Lopez deputy observed three sheep on the side of Fisherman Bay Road. The deputy stood by to alert traffic, and the sheep walked home on their own accord.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a trespassing complaint. The suspect was issued a trespass warning letter.

June 5

• A deputy was dispatched to a fight on San Juan. The deputy arrived and contacted the people involved and arrested one person for domestic violence assault-4th degree, a minor possessing or consuming alcohol, and a DUI.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident. Photos of the damage were taken and an investigation is ongoing.

• An Orcas deputy responded to an unwanted person call. The individual left the scene before the officer arrived, and a trespass warning letter was completed.

• A deputy responded to an unwanted person complaint at an Eastsound drinking establishment. The complainant asked that the subject of the complaint be trespassed from the premises.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a harassment complaint. The complainant reported being followed by an unknown person. The person was identified however, no crime had been committed.

• A Lopez deputy was called about an unwanted person, and resources were suggested for obtaining a civil no-contact order.

June 6

• A deputy responded to a trespassing call in Eastsound. The business wanted someone trespassed from their business because they had been making their staff and customers very uncomfortable for months.

• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to an agency assist. Many rear license plates had changed vehicles over the past couple of months, and the agency that called had an Orcas resident’s plate to return to them. The resident’s rear plate was found to be a plate from off-island.

• An employer from Anacortes called to report that their Lopez employee had not shown up for work and was not answering phone calls. Upon investigation, the employee missed work because they were at a spa getting a massage. It is likely they were too relaxed to communicate via phone.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to an abandoned vehicle call on public property and impounded the vehicle.

• Deputies on Orcas assisted Washington State Park Rangers and Orcas Fire and Rescue Personnel with a medical emergency.

June 7

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to an agency assist call. The investigation is ongoing.
