Heating and energy assistance

Did you know that you may be able to get assistance in paying for your home heating? A one-person household earning up to $1064 per month qualifies, as does a family of four earning up to $2151. If you are eligible, this program can help you pay for electricity, propane, natural gas, wood, or heating oil. Plus, you may qualify for a new refrigerator, free! OPALCO meeting

There will be an OPALCO Board of Directors Meeting at the OPALCO Meeting Room in Friday Harbor on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 8:30 a.m..

LCLT Board Meeting

The Lopez Community Land Trust Board of Directors will meet at the Lopez Library on Saturday, Jan. 19 from 9:00 am to noon. All are welcome!

Jam, Jive, and Eat!

Lopez Island Teen Events presents: Jam, Jive and Eat! on Jan. 19, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m for the Middle School and 8 p.m. to midnight for the High School. The event will take place in The Grange. There will be a pool table, foosball, ping-pong, food, and jam session. Bring musical instrument and equipment if you have ’em, if not, bring yourself! Admission is $3. Sponsored by Lopez Island Family Resource Center and the San Juan County Tobacco Prevention Program.

Yoga class for new mothers

The Orcas Family Resource Center is again sponsoring a yoga class for new mothers. If your baby is three months or older you may join a yoga class to be offered free at the Orcas Fire Department, on Wedsnedays from 11-12:30 beginning Jan. 23 and running for 6 weeks. K-9 Carnival seeking vendors

Island Rec’s second annual K-9 Carnival is scheduled for Sunday afternoon March 30, 2008. After an amazingly successful event last year, where over 300 people and 100 dogs participated in this fun, playful event for dogs and their people, it is back for a second year. In addition to games, contests and demonstrations, dog related businesses are on hand providing information and services. If you are a business that would like the opportunity to reach hundreds of folks who have a passion for dogs you’ll want to participate! Call for artists

The San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce invites local and regional artists to participate in the “Splash of Summer Color” weekend by joining in the Summer Arts Fair 2008, July 19 and 20, outdoors in Friday Harbor.There will be approximately 50 artists booths, a kids creative zone, a sidewalk art contest, music on the Courthouse lawn, a pancake breakfast, a food court and farmers’ market! Upcoming programs from Island Rec

The Smart Start sports development program is a new program this year for children ages 3-5. This program is a chance for parents to work together with their children to develop basic throwing, catching and batting skills that will help them to prepare for participation for youth sports. This six-week program will be held on Saturdays Feb. 2 thru March 8. For more information contact Island Rec at 378-4953. The 3rd annual Father-Daughter Dance will be on Feb. 8. This is a chance for girls and women of all ages to spend a night out with their fathers or significant male figure in their lives. Tickets are $20 per couple, $6 for addition daughter.
