Lopez AA Meetings

Lopez AA meetings at the Children’s Center: Monday, Big Book, 7:30 p.m.; Friday, 12×12, 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, noon. Al-Anon family group meets every Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. in the Parish Hall of Grace Episcopal Church. Women’s meeting Wednesday, 4-5 p.m. (call 468-4648 or 468-0541 for location).

AA on Orcas

Alcoholics Anonymous for Orcas Island has 24 hour help. Call 376-4522.

Waldron community meeting

The Waldron community meeting is every 2nd Saturday of the month in the schoolhouse. The group meets at 2:30 p.m. in the winter, and 4 p.m. in spring and summer.

Tai Chi on Lopez

Lopez Senior Center presents beginning and advanced Tai Chi at Woodmen Hall every Wednesday. Advanced: 9 a.m. Beginning: 10 a.m. For more information, call Jerry at 468-4709.

SJC Land Bank meeting

The San Juan County Land Bank Commission will hold its monthly meeting on Friday, Feb. 8. The meeting begins at 8:30 a.m. and will be held in the Conference Room, Whidbey Island Bank, 535 Market Street, Friday Harbor. Public comment time is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. The public is welcome at every monthly Land Bank Commission meeting.

Falun Dafa workshop

There will be an Introduction to Falun Dafa presentation on Feb. 9 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Lopez Island Library. Falun Dafa is a traditional meditation and exercise practice similar in principle to Tai Chi. It is simple to learn and can improve the health of mind and body. The program is free and open to all ages.

LCLT Board Meeting

The Lopez Community Land Trust Board of Directors will meet at the Lopez Library on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008 from 9:00 am to noon. All are welcome!

Literary Salon at Orcas Library

Literary Salon on Friday, Feb. 9 at 7:00 p.m. at the Orcas Library will feature poet, essayist, naturalist, and schooner skipper Holly Hughes, who will read from her award-wining book Boxing the Compass. Feb. schedule for movies at Lopez Library

The following is a schedule for Lopez Library’s free movie showings, every Wednesday at 4:30 on its big screen in the community room: Feb. 6 – Secret of Roan Inish; Feb. 13 – Casablanca; Feb. 20 – Waitress; Feb. 27 – Because of Winn-Dixie.

Climate Change lecture

On Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. Lara Whitely Binder will discuss the potential impacts of climate change on the Puget Sound and San Juan Islands regions. Binder is an outreach specialist at the University of Washington’s Climate Impacts Group. The program is at the Camp Orkila Marine Salmon Center and is free. Please park in the upper parking lot at Camp Orkila. Shuttle service from the parking lot to the talk is available before and after the lecture.

Loss Support Group

We’re not always filled with joy on Valentine’s Day! This month’s celebration brings to mind those we love as well as those we have lost. Time alone doesn’t “take care” of the pain. The Loss Support Group at the Hospice office meets on Friday, Feb. 22 at 1:15 p.m. You are welcome to join them.
