Technology Lab at LIFRC
The technology lab at the Lopez Island Family Resource Center (LIFRC) has computers available to the public for online classes, internet access and personal projects during LIFRC regular business hours, Monday-Thurs. 9-5, and Friday 9-3. Individual tutoring is also available by appointment only on Monday and Tuesday with Rich Coppola from 3-5. A resource center tech keeps regular office hours on Fridays from 1-3. CD release party for Alex Shapiro
Friday Harbor Laboratories invites the community to attend a CD release party for new San Juan Island resident Alex Shapiro, celebrating “Notes from the Kelp,” her latest Innova Recordings CD on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. at the beautiful Friday Harbor Labs Whiteley Center. All proceeds from the evening’s CD sales will benefit the Labs’ K-12 Science Outreach Program. Hoops after-school basketball
Orcas Rec is offering Hoops after-school basketball March 6 through April 4. Boys are on Mondays/Fridays and girls are Tuesdays/Thursdays. Grades 3 & 4 (3:20-4:20), Grades 5 & 6 (4:30-5:30). This after school program is open to children of all abilities. With quality coaches, HOOPS will feature a balance between learning skills and having fun! At the Orcas public school old gym. Basketball hot shot shoot-out
Island Rec is holding its first ever basketball shooting competition for grades 4th-8th. This is the chance to show off all those skills learned during the season. Competitions include: free throw contest, hot spot shoot-out, three point shoot-out and beat the buzzer. Prizes will be awarded for first place in each category. The competition will be held Sunday, March 2 beginning at 11:30 for 4th and 5th graders and 1:00 p.m. for grades 6th-8th. Seeking artists for Summer Arts Fair
The San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce invites local and regional artists to participate in the “Splash of Summer Color” weekend, by joining in their Summer Arts Fair 2008, July 19 and 20, outdoors in Friday Harbor. There will be approximately 50 artists booths, a Kids Creative Zone, a Sidewalk Art Contest, Music on the Courthouse lawn, a Pancake Breakfast, a Food Court and Farmers’ Market! Call for souvenir art poster contest entries
The San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce is seeking entries for its art poster contest for The “Splash of Summer Color” weekend. The Splash weekend, July 19 and 20, is a two-day festival of showcasing the Summer Arts Fair in Friday Harbor and the SJI Lavender Festival at Pelindaba Lavender Farm. The winning entry will be the art used for the souvenir poster, sold during the weekend and will also be used for the cover of the arts fair souvenir program.
