Spruce up the Center Work Party: 9 a.m. at LCCA. Come one, come all to a fun day sprucing up the Lopez Center for the 10th anniversary and enjoying a potluck lunch together. We will spruce up the grounds around the Center and plant new bulbs in a garden bed by the entry. Begin re-painting the pavilion. Repair chairs. Celebrate the sprucing up of the green room.

Lopez Gardeners – Della Robbia Techniques: Cindy Guenther, Floral Designer, owner of “Lilies in the Valley” will demonstrate and educate about Della Robbia floral arrangements, named after the Italian artist who used the bounty of nature including real oranges, apples, grains, and seedpods, as a theme in his work. Thursday, Oct. 8. Coffee and goodies at 9:30 a.m. The meeting starts at 10 a.m. Meet at Woodmen Hall 4102 Fisherman Bay Road. Please come – everyone is welcome. Sponsored by Lopez Island Garden Club.

CORRECTIONS FOR the Lopez Center for Community and the Arts Tenth Anniversary event: In the article last week on the Tenth Anniversary for the LCCA, the Center was inaccurately called “The Lopez Community Center for the Arts.” The Center’s correct name is the Lopez Center for Community and the Arts. Also, the published time for the anniversary event was 2 p.m. The correct time is 5 p.m. The Weekly regrets the errors.

CORRECTIONS FOR the Fall Festival and Jazz Ensemble: The Friends of Woodmen Hall and the Lopez School Music Advocacy Foundation have put together an outstanding day with the annual fall fundraising event and a benefit performance of the award winning Garfield Jazz Ensemble. Come to Woodmen Hall from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (not 10:30 a.m. as printed last week) for games, vendors, and great food. At 2:30 the jazz ensemble will perform. Reservations for this concert are recommended. Suggested donation is $15.00. All proceeds after travel expenses will go towards improvements of the Woodmen Hall stage. Deadline for Boy’s Basketball League Registration: Now is the time to register for Island Rec’s Boy’s Basketball League, open to boys in grades 4th through 8th. The deadline to register is Oct. 2 with team practices beginning the week of Oct. 26. All games are played on San Juan Island on Sunday afternoons. Volunteer coaches and officials are needed. Registration forms can be picked up from the schools, the Island Rec office, or on our website www.islandrec.org. The registration fee is $35.
