Weekend art activities

Every Saturday through Labor Day, the Westcott Bay Institute presents Family Art Days at the Westcott Bay Sculpture Park on San Juan Island. Drop in any Saturday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. for a free, family-oriented art activity led by a local artist. The Sculpture Park is located at the entrance to Roche Harbor Resort and is open from dawn to dusk, 365 days a year. Come to paint, print, bubble, build, bead, and much, much more! RecX Horseshu Ranch

Join Island Rec and Horseshu Ranch on July 8, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a day all about horses. You will have a chance to learn basic care and grooming techniques as well as go for a ride on a gentle saddle horse. The registration date for this program is July 1, so register now! Tennis time on Lopez

Get your tennis game ready for summer! This class is for those with at least some previous tennis experience who want to tune up their game, learn new skills, or dust off their old ones. Christy Driskell is the instructor and she brings to Lopez a love for the game and a desire to share what she knows with anyone interested in learning the sport or furthering their skills. Bring a racquet. Classes are offered through the Resource Center Kids’ Summer workshops program. Classes will be June 30 through July 3 from 11:00-12:30 at the tennis courts. Golf classes on Lopez

Learn the fundamentals of grip, stance, swing, ball contact, putting, chipping and driving. This course, on July 17 and 18, will cover golf rules and etiquette and emphasize learning to play golf in a creative and fun environment. Bring 7 iron golf club and a water bottle. If you can’t find a golf club let the Resource Center know. Classes are offered through the Kids’ Summer workshops. Call 468-4117. Ages: nine to adult at the Lopez Island High School from 9:30-11:30. Fee: $30.

The fun side of filmmaking

Colin Snapp will teach an intermediate level course for students and adults who already possess a working knowledge of video production. Participants will get more hands on advanced opportunities and creative control as the class collaborates on one group video directed by the students. They will use advanced video and sound equipment and edit utilizing Final Cut Express. Classes are offered through the Kids’ Summer Workshops. This class is for ages 12 to adult. Dates are: August 12 to 15 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Resource Center’s computer lab. Fees are $60. For more information call 468-4117.
