A free workshop about writing a will: 10:30-11:30 a.m., Lopez Library. This workshop will inform participants about making and updating a will; new federal estate laws affecting estate planning; designating beneficiaries in retirement plans; and, information about tax advantages of designating non-profit organizations as beneficiary in your estate plans.

Movie at the library: “Clash of the Titans”, 2 – 4 p.m., Lopez Library Community meeting Room. A remake of the 1981 mythical adventure film about the myth of Perseus.

Art show: Chimera Gallery presents “Wild”, Chimera Gallery, Lopez Village Plaza. The show features work from Lark Dalton of Olive Glass (sculpture and functional works), Summer Skyriver (photography), and Raven Skyriver (glass). Meet the artists at a festive reception on Sat. Free Discussion: “Why Can’t I Quit Smoking?!?”, 6 – 7:30 p.m., Lopez Library community meeting room. Join Christie Driskell, LICSW and Smoking Cessation Coach for an informal and often humorous discussion to explore why people are continuing to smoke cigarettes in the face of overwhelming evidence that it is harmful. Virgo Birthday Bash with Elephant Revival: 7:30 p.m., Woodmen Hall. Tickets $10.Nederland Colorado neo-acoustic quintet Elephant Revival plays a unique blend of an emerging new musical genre called Transcendental Folk. The quintet can be seen delving into Scottish/Celtic fiddle tunes, original folk pieces, traditional ballads, psychedelic country, indie rock, powerful reggae grooves, 40s/50s jazz standards and an occasional hip-hop beat amongst other styles.

Lopez Island Hazardous Waste Round-up: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Annual collection for safe recycling/disposal of flammable, toxic, corrosive or reactive wastes from households and businesses. United Way of San Juan County Day of Caring: 9 a.m.,Lopez School Garden. United Way of San Juan County will host a work party at the school garden for their Day of Caring from 9 a.m. – noon.Volunteers to help with last-minute gate details, working on a few desired building projects, some gardening and perhaps working on processing tomatoes for the school cafeteria. They are also in need of some volunteers to donate food for a celebratory lunch taking place directly after the work party for all involved.
