League of Women Voters Sponsors Election Forum: Lopezians are encouraged to attend an Election Forum from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lopez School. Invited candidates are Georgeana McRae Cook and John Helding, who are seeking election to the Lopez Island School Board. LCLT Board Meeting: The Lopez Community Land Trust Board of Directors will meet at the LCLT office (25 Tuatara Road) on Saturday Oct. 17, 2008 from 9 a.m. to noon. All are welcome.

Mon Oct. 19

San Juan County Council meeting: The county meeting will be from 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Citizen’s access is at 10:30 a.m. The captain of the Naval Air Station will be speaking at 11 a.m. to discuss the “State of the Station.” This will be part of the San Juan County council meeting at the community center.

Island Songs with Emily Metcalf: Parents with small children are invited to come and learn Island Songs with Emily, Tuesday October 20th at 11:00 am at Grace Church. The Resource Center would like to offer families with small children the opportunity to get to know one another through music, art, reading and more! San Juan Island

Celebration of our Local Harvest: The San Juan Island Agricultural Guild and the San Juan Island Farmers’ Market is sponsoring Salt Spring Island farmer, writer, speaker and photographer Michael Ableman to speak at the upcoming “Celebration of Our Local Harvest.” Join our dinner gathering of farmers, friends of farmers and all those who like good food, and hear Michael talk about “Thinking like an Island.” Michael is an internationally acclaimed writer, speaker, photographer, practitioner of sustainable agriculture and proponent of regional food systems. The talk is on Friday, Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. at the Mullis Center. There is a suggested donation of $10, though no one will be denied a ticket. Bring a dish of something tasty. Tickets can be picked up at the Farmer’s Market, Griffin Bay Books and Market Chef.
