Parenting Teens Workshop: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Lopez School Library. Join Shahn McGuire, licensed marriage and family therapist, for this two-part class on the joys, struggles, and rewards of being a parent of an adolescent. There is no charge for this workshop, but pre-registration is required. Childcare will be provided with advance notice no later than Nov. 30. Bring a brown bag lunch. Concert: San Juan Singers Christmas concert, 4 p.m., Grace Episcopal Church. The performers will present a variety of pieces, from “O Magnum Mysterium” by William Byrd, to excerpts from Benjamin Britten’s “Ceremony of Carols.” The program will also include renditions of “Christus Natus Est” (Damijan Mocnik), along with “Lux Fulgebit” (Javier Busto), “Ave Maria” (Rachmaninov), and “Child of Peace” (Jeffrey Van). Folk music pieces, “I wonder as I wander,” “Carol of the Birds,” “Jesus Christ the Appletree,” will feature guest soloists. Admission by donation.

Author reading – Martin Burwash: 2 p.m., Lopez library. Historian, photographer and author of the historical novel “Vis Major.” The book is the culmination of more than 40 years of research by Burwash of an often overlooked piece of Washington history, as well as North America’s worst avalanche disaster to date.

The San Juan Historical Museum’s Annual Old-Fashioned Holiday Celebration: 5 p.m., King Farmhouse and Etta Egeland Resource Center on Price St. Features caroling by the Island Chordsmen, at 5:30 p.m., hot cider, hearty chili (vegetarian, too), holiday goodies, a special treat by Cynthia Burke of Cynthia’s, Of Course, and world famous Ivar’s Clam Chowder.

Resurrection Derby: Sponsored by the local chapter of the Puget Sound Anglers, the event is part of the Northwest Marine Trade Association’s Salmon Derby series and fund-raiser for the local chapter’s salmon and habitat enhancement projects. Cash prizes include $10,000 for first place, $2,500 for second, $1,500 for third, and $1,000 for mystery fish. Tickets available at Ace Hardware and King’s Marine.
