Charity casino night to benefit hospice

Gambling? On Lopez? Well, it’s for a good cause! It’s Lopez Island Hospice and Home Support’s (LIHHS) major fundraiser of the year.

Gambling? On Lopez? Well, it’s for a good cause! It’s Lopez Island Hospice and Home Support’s (LIHHS) major fundraiser of the year.

Come and bring your friends on August 30, 5 to 8 p.m. at Lopez Center. And it’s not really gambling: you purchase an entrance ticket for a minimum of $10, which you immediately exchange for “funny money.” Dealers at the gaming tables will exchange your “funny money” for chips, with which you can keep playing and playing and playing… LIHHS volunteers (in black bow ties, white shirts and black pants – just like Vegas!) will happily fetch drinks and more “funny money” for you.

In addition to the gaming tables (blackjack, craps, roulette, and an ongoing game of Texas hold ’em) you can use your “funny money” to purchase tickets for great raffle prizes. There will be a silent auction, where you can bid on even more items donated by Lopez residents and businesses. There will be complimentary tapas, and mixed drinks, beer, wine, soft drinks and water for purchase. And all the REAL money goes to support Lopez Island Hospice and Home Support! If we raise enough money, state law says we have to designate another nonprofit organization to receive the excess – so you could also end up contributing to the Lopez Thrift Shop!

LIHHS has contracted with Team Casino, a company that takes care of all the necessary permits and requirements of the Washington State Gaming Commission. Team Casino’s professional, friendly, fun dealers will run the gaming tables, and they will gladly give you lessons if you don’t know how to play.

It should be a fun evening!
