Business burglary, funds fraud, disappearing daughter, harassed horses | San Juan County Sheriff’s Log

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls:

Jan. 24

A Friday Harbor deputy received a report of a school bus stop sign violation. The deputy was unable to locate the violator.

An Orcas deputy stopped a vehicle on Enchanted Forest Road. The driver was arrested on an out-of-county warrant. He was issued a criminal citation for driving with a suspended license and was cited for speeding 42 mph in a 25 mph zone.

A person reported a business was entered and cash was taken in Friday Harbor.

A caller reported their daughter left and had not returned. A juvenile pick up order was requested.

Jan. 25

A Lopez motorist was stopped for traveling 37 mph in a 25 mph zone on Fisherman Bay Road. The driver was issued a citation for speeding.

Jan. 26

A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a dog-at-large complaint involving a dog running amongst the caller’s horses. The owner was located and a citation was issued.

A deputy responded to a Lopez business to assist emergency medical services with a combative patient. It was determined that the involved person was highly intoxicated. There was no evidence of a crime.

Jan. 27

A deputy was dispatched to the San Juan Island area in reference to an unwanted person. The reporting deputy arrived and made contact with the involved persons. One person was arrested under “minor possessing or consuming alcohol.” The investigation continues.

Deputies responded to four interrelated cases of minor in possession, theft, threats and assault. All four incidents are under investigation and one was arrested for MIP.

The reporting deputy was called about an animal problem in the San Juan Island area. The investigation continues.

Jan. 28

A deputy on Orcas stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver was issued a citation for speeding 40 mph in a 25 mph zone.

A Lopez deputy took a report from an island resident on fraudulent activity occurring on a bank account. The account has been canceled and the incident is under investigation.

An Orcas deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver was issued a citation for speeding 43 mph in a 25 mph zone.

An owner was contacted by dispatch to return cows to a pasture.

A Lopez deputy was contacted regarding a possible domestic violence order violation. A report was completed.

An Orcas Island deputy stopped a vehicle on Mount Baker Road. The driver, a local man, was issued a citation for having a defective tail light and a warning for not having proof of insurance.

Jan. 29

A deputy responded to a report of a burglary at a business in Friday Harbor. The investigation continues.

An Orcas deputy stopped a vehicle on Mount Baker Road. The driver, a local woman, was issued a citation for speeding 38 mph in a posted 25-mph zone. She was also warned for having no proof of current insurance and improperly displayed tabs.

Jan. 30

A deputy was dispatched to a mental health issue in the San Juan Island area. The subject left the area on foot and then fled when contacted by deputies.

A deputy took a report of a mail theft on Orcas Island. The victims reported having a package stolen from their mailbox. The case is under investigation.
