So, will you be wearing green for St. Patrick’s Day this year? All blood donors on Lopez that day are sure to be! That’s because the Puget Sound Blood Center will be issuing green arm wraps during the Lopez Island blood drive on Tuesday, March 17th from noon to 6:00 PM at the Community Church in the Village.
The Puget Sound Blood Center is the primary provider of blood to hospitals throughout western Washington. The blood collected at Lopez Island’s blood drives provides life and comfort to patients who have suffered serious injuries or burns, need transfusions during surgeries, or have life-threatening chronic diseases like leukemia or cancer that require frequent transfusions. Each unit of blood collected can benefit up to three patients.
Giving blood is a safe and easy process. The entire blood donation process takes about one hour. To prepare for donating blood, please be sure to eat a balanced meal and drink plenty of juice or water at least four hours before giving blood.
So mark your calendars now to donate blood on March 17th between noon and 6:00 PM at the Community Church in the Village. And celebrate St. Patrick’s Day right with a wearing of the green provided by the Puget Sound Blood Center!
This Lopez Island blood drive, as usual, is sponsored by the Lopez Island Lions Club.
