The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
Feb. 26
• An Orcas Island deputy took a report of harassment. The incident was investigated, and charges will be forwarded to the prosecutor for review.
• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a report of found property. The incident was documented.
• An Orcas Island business owner contacted an Orcas Island deputy regarding an individual entering the business and causing a disturbance.
• A Lopez deputy received a report of a light being switched on in what was supposed to be an unoccupied trailer. No one was discovered to be inside the trailer. The incident was documented.
• A deputy on San Juan Island took a report of lost property. A report was completed.
• An Orcas Island deputy assisted a local business with trespassing an individual from their business. The individual was screaming and kicking the door of the business, which subsequently scared the employee and patrons.
• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a possible weapons offense at a local business. It was determined to be a verbal argument that did not involve a firearm. An informational report was taken.
• San Juan deputies located a person with an active Department of Corrections warrant for escaping community custody. The individual was arrested and booked into jail.
Feb. 27
• A deputy was contacted about a trespassing in the Friday Harbor area. One person was served with a trespass letter. A report was taken.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 37 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was issued an infraction for speeding.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle as the owner did not have a driver’s license and the vehicle had tint covering the license plate. The driver was issued an infraction for having no valid license with ID, and a warning was given for an obstructed license plate.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 37 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone and driving left of center. The driver was issued an infraction for speeding.
• San Juan deputies observed a driver known to have a suspended license operating a motor vehicle. Deputies issued a citation to the driver for driving without a license in the third degree and an infraction for expired registration greater than two months. The driver was released with a court date.
Feb. 28
• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a juvenile problem. Upon arrival, deputies found four juveniles in possession of cannabis. Deputies seized the cannabis and notified the juveniles’ guardians. The case will be forwarded to the prosecutor and juvenile court for review.
• San Juan Deputies responded to a report of fraud. Deputies investigated the matter and found a loss was incurred but no suspect information was available. The victim was assisted with identity theft protection information, and a victim statement was entered into the case.
• A former Lopez resident called regarding property left behind at a rental home in 2023. They were advised that this was a civil issue between them and the former landlord.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 40 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was issued an infraction for speeding.
March 1
• A Lopez man was issued his second dog-at-large infraction this week.
• A Lopez deputy took a report of a dog escaping from a vehicle while in line at the ferry terminal. The escape attempt was short-lived, and the dog was recovered.
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for speeding 37 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone in Moran State Park. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle as the driver did not have a driver’s license. The driver was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, and a blood draw was completed.
March 2
• San Juan Deputies responded to a residence regarding a domestic incident. Upon arrival, deputies determined that it was verbal and no crime had occurred. No action was taken.
• Deputies on Orcas Island responded to a domestic dispute. No crime was committed. A report was authored for documentation purposes.
• A deputy on Orcas Island conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle operated by a person known to the deputy to be driving on a suspended license. The driver was arrested for driving while license suspended in the third degree and released with a promise to appear in court.
March 3
• A Lopez resident sought guidance on a civil real estate issue.
• An Orcas Island deputy served a subject a trespass warning letter barring him from the property of the Orcas Christian School.
• An Orcas Island deputy took a report of an alleged theft of scaffolding equipment that occurred sometime within the last year. The victim alleged that over $10,000 in property was taken. There is no suspect information and no investigative leads.
• An Orcas Island deputy was contacted by a local resident who is being cyber-stalked by a subject from their past. Information was gathered, and a documentation report was authored. No crime had been committed at the time of the report.
