Battery boost, friendly feud, videoed vandalism? | San Juan County Sheriff’s Log

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Feb. 23

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 65 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone and issued them a citation for speeding.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of bicycles left at Linde Park for weeks. The deputy took custody of the bicycles and stored them in evidence as found property.

• Deputies responded to a report of an unwanted person in Friday Harbor. The involved party was contacted and the situation de-escalated. They were trespassed from the business at the request of the business manager.

• A San Juan deputy was advised of a theft. No suspect information exists.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a domestic disturbance. After an investigation, the deputy determined no crime was committed.

Feb. 24

• A deputy on Orcas took a fraud callback. The reporting party’s bank fraud department had refunded all money lost and was on the case.

• On San Juan, a deputy responded to a delayed report of a fraudulent charge that occurred on the caller’s business account. The crime occurred in California and local police advised the caller to file a report with their local law enforcement agency. This was done and forwarded to a law enforcement agency in California.

• A San Juan deputy conducted a welfare check on behalf of Adult Protective Services. The alleged victim refuted the claims and said they were satisfied with their arrangement. No signs of abuse or neglect were noted.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle as the registered owner had a suspended driver’s license. The deputy’s report was sent to the prosecutor’s office for a charging decision for driving with a suspended license-third degree.

Feb. 25

• A lost credit card was turned into the sheriff’s office. A Lopez deputy contacted the owner and returned the card.

• A Lopez deputy provided a citizen with a jump start for their vehicle’s dead battery.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle as the registered owner had a suspended driver’s license. The driver was issued a citation for not having insurance and the report was sent to the prosecutor’s office for a charging decision for driving with a suspended license-third degree.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a citation for speeding, 60 mph in a 40 mph zone.

• Another driver was stopped for speeding on Orcas and issued a citation for driving 59 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Feb. 26

• An Orcas man was found deceased near his home. It appeared he died of natural causes.

• San Juan deputies responded to a domestic incident in Friday Harbor. An investigation revealed that a crime had occurred, and the aggressor was booked into jail for domestic violence-fourth degree assault and for interfering with a report of domestic violence.

• An Orcas deputy responded to and conducted a death investigation.

• A deputy was contacted about property found in Friday Harbor and entered it into evidence.

• On Lopez, a deputy issued a driver a citation for speeding; 51 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Feb. 27

• A San Juan deputy conducted a traffic stop for an equipment violation. The driver was unable to provide proof of insurance and was not in possession of their driver’s license. They were issued a citation for not having insurance, and warnings for other violations.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a person lying in the road and found the person to be intoxicated in violation of court-imposed release conditions. A report was forwarded to the San Juan County Prosecutor’s Office.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a dispute between an adult and juvenile.

Feb. 28

• A deputy responded to a single-vehicle accident with no injury in Eastsound. The owner of the vehicle had already contacted road service to remove the vehicle.

• On San Juan, a deputy responded to a report of a single-vehicle roll-over collision. The investigation determined the driver was driving too fast for conditions and received multiple citations.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a traffic collision. The deputy contacted the people involved and completed a collision report.

• A Lopez deputy was called and took a report about an ongoing neighbor dispute.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a call from the library about an unwanted person. The person left after law enforcement told them they needed to leave.

• A driver on Lopez was issued a warning for speeding in a school zone.

March 1

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a citizen dispute between a landlord and a former tenant.

• On San Juan, deputies determined a recent death was not suspicious.

• A report of vandalism in Eastsound prompted a deputy to take photographs and make a report. While no suspects were identified, law enforcement is waiting on possible video surveillance.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of a missing person. The person later made contact with the deputy and said they were okay.

• Deputies on Orcas arrested a person on an outstanding warrant.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a local business that wanted a trespass warning letter given to an individual. The warning letter was signed by the manager, suspect, and a deputy.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a welfare check. After an investigation was completed, it was found that an assault had occurred, and the suspect was arrested and transported to Friday Harbor.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a complaint of trespassing.

March 2

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a single-vehicle collision. The driver, a juvenile, received citations for driving without a license and driving with wheels off the roadway.
