The San Juan County Sheriff’s office responded to the following calls.

June 8

• A Lopez citizen received a suspicious covid test kit in the mail they did not order. Further investigation discovered the test kit was sent from a concerned friend.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a trespassing call. The business wanted someone trespassed from their premises because they had been making their staff quite uncomfortable for months.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a welfare check at the request of a medical professional. The deputy located the individual who had missed their appointment. The individual voluntarily agreed to a courtesy transport.

• A deputy spoke with a person who has the controlling authority of a property on San Juan. The caller wanted to trespass someone for using the property as a bathroom. The person was located and issued a trespass warning letter.

• A deputy on San Juan spoke with a citizen who wanted to report that thousands of dollars of new equipment had been stolen off their boat sometime between January and May. There is no suspect information or workable leads currently.

• A Lopez deputy answered a call from a resident seeking advice about entering a go-kart in the upcoming Fourth of July parade.

• San Juan deputies responded to a request for a wellness check. The person refused to speak to a deputy, had not violated any laws, nor had they reached any threshold for involuntary treatment. No other options to assist were available.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a request for assistance regarding a person in a crisis. The deputy convinced the person to go to the hospital voluntarily for treatment.

June 9

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a welfare check in Friday Harbor. A subject was found to be intoxicated from inhaling (air) duster. A report was sent to the prosecutor’s office for a charging decision.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to an accident with injury near the Rosario area. The single occupant was flown off the island for medical treatment.

• San Juan deputies responded to a possible domestic incident. Once on the scene, the deputies spoke with a person who appeared to be highly intoxicated who refused to provide information about the occurrence or the identity of the other party. No crime appeared to have occurred.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a sex offense. The case is currently being investigated.

• A Lopez deputy responded to an accident-without-injury call. A distracted driver from Seattle was looking at a deer when they struck two Lopez mailboxes. Information was exchanged, and a citation was issued.

• San Juan deputies responded to a request for help from a person in crisis. Deputies spoke with the person and recommended sources for counseling.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a 911 hang-up call.

• A San Juan deputy took a report of a stolen vehicle. The reporting party said they had parked near the ferry terminal and later returned to find their vehicle gone. The vehicle was added to the nationwide stolen vehicle database.

• On San Juan, a deputy arrested a person with multiple active misdemeanor arrest warrants. The person was booked into jail without incident.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of disorderly conduct. The deputy located a person sleeping on the ground with an open alcohol container and issued them a citation for having an open container in public.

• A deputy responded to a trespassing call in Eastsound. A church requested a person be trespassed from their buildings, as they have been making their visitors, and members very uncomfortable for months with their explicit language.

June 10

• A deputy was dispatched to a single-vehicle accident on San Juan area. The deputy located a single vehicle off the roadway and on its roof. The driver was treated and transported for additional treatment.

June 11

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of found property and entered the item into the evidence system.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a dog-at-large. The owner of the dog was notified and given information on the county ordinance about dogs being off their property.

• Deputies on San Juan located two people wanted on arrest warrants. Once located, both individuals were arrested under the authority of the warrants and booked into the San Juan County Jail without incident.

• A deputy on San Juan took a walk-in report from a citizen who stated someone hit their car while they were shopping in a grocery store. At the time of the report, no suspect information or workable were available.

• Deputies on Orcas initiated an investigation after receiving a notice of a protection order violation and arrested the restrained party.

• Deputies made contact with a person on San Juan who was trespassing and transported them to the ferry landing.

• A San Juan deputy conducted a traffic stop on Tucker Avenue. The driver was issued a speeding citation for driving 51mph in a 25 mph zone.

• A Lopezian lost their phone at an island resort. The phone’s GPS data pinged at a nearby address. A deputy responded to the address and found the phone. The person with the phone explained that there was an accidental mix-up and returned it. Alcohol may have been a factor in the confusion.

June 12

• A deputy responded to a report of an unwanted person on San Juan. The deputy arrived and contacted the people involved. The incident was a family member with substance abuse issues. No crime was committed and a plan for the night was agreed upon.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of an animal bite. The incident was documented as the dog may have been provoked.

• An Orcas deputy authored an incident report regarding a trespassing issue that occurred on June 11. No crime was committed and the reporting party only requested documentation of this incident.

A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a runaway juvenile. The juvenile was located a short time later and returned to the parents.

• An Orcas deputy investigated the theft of a bronze statue of a crane valued at $1,500.00. The statue was stolen within the last three months.

• A Lopez resident was stopped for speeding. A citation was issued for not having proof of vehicle insurance., and a statement of probable cause was sent to the court for driving with a suspended license.

• A deputy on Lopez responded to a mental health/substance abuse incident.

• A Lopez man was arrested and booked into jail for residential burglary.

June 13

• A deputy on San Juan took custody of shotgun shells from a citizen who wanted to turn them in for destruction. The deputy submitted the shotgun shells into evidence for that purpose.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to an animal problem.

• An individual was bailed out of the county jail in Friday Harbor pending their next court date.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a reported order violation after a person under court-ordered protection received emails that violated the protection order. A probable cause statement was generated.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop and cited the driver for speeding, 40 mph in a 25 mph zone.

June 14

• A deputy sergeant on San Juan was notified about a suspicious package that possibly contained flammable products in an empty parking lot in Friday Harbor. The sergeant contacted ATF officials, collected the items, and secured the package in a secure fire box awaiting follow-up by ATF.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a suspicious call after a resident reported finding beer bottle caps and other garbage in their driveway.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a report of an assault in the Prune Alley construction zone. The subject was issued criminal citations for assault and disobeying a flagger.
