The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Dec. 24

• Deputies on San Juan Island responded to a report of an unconscious individual in the bathroom of a local business. Deputies and San Juan emergency medical services units provided aid, but the person was pronounced deceased. A report was completed, and the death does not appear suspicious at this time.

• Lopez Island deputies were dispatched to a domestic violence call. The incident was documented.

Dec. 25

• A San Juan deputy responded to a death investigation. The death appeared to have been natural and the decedent was turned over to Evan’s Funeral Chapel.

• Deputies on San Juan Island responded to a single-vehicle accident. The driver of a vehicle experienced a suspected medical emergency while driving, went off the roadway and struck a tree. A report was completed.

Dec. 26

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a welfare check. An individual was contacted and was placed into protective custody. They were transported to the hospital for evaluation.

• A Lopez deputy was contacted about an alleged theft. The matter appeared to be mental health-related.

• A Lopez resident called about issues with a feral cat. Wolf Hollow and other solutions were suggested.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a suspicious incident near the Turtleback Mountain area. The deputy learned that someone used a residence for their personal needs without stealing from or damaging the residence. The homeowner only wanted the incident documented at this time.

• Deputies on San Juan Island responded to a report of a DUI. The driver was arrested for physical control of a vehicle while under the influence and driving while license suspended in the third degree.

• A deputy on Orcas Island issued a notice of infraction for littering an abandoned vehicle.

Dec. 27

• A Lopez juvenile was issued an infraction for speeding, 60 mph in a 35 mph zone on Fisherman Bay Road. Other warnings were given.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a welfare check in the Olga area. The deputy learned that the subject of the investigation had family members monitoring the subject located at a hospital out of state. The incident was documented.

• A deputy on Orcas Island issued a notice of infraction for littering an abandoned vehicle.

Dec. 28

• Lopez deputies and Lopez EMS responded to a mental health crisis. The person was located in fair condition and transported to the hospital.

• A deputy on Orcas Island issued four notices of infractions for littering an abandoned vehicle.

• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a suspicious call. The incident was documented.

• Deputies on Orcas Island responded to a domestic dispute. One of the individuals involved was determined to be suffering from a mental disorder and was taken into protective custody.

Dec. 29

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a welfare check in the downtown Eastsound area. The deputy assisted with transporting a citizen to a hospital for involuntary treatment. The incident was documented.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to an animal bite incident in the Eastsound area. The reporting party sustained multiple puncture wounds from a dog bite. The potentially dangerous dog owner was subsequently issued a citation. The incident was documented.

• A Lopez Island deputy stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Ferry Road and Overlook Lane. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speeding 57 mph in a posted 45 mph zone, and additional warnings were given.

• Lopez Island deputies were dispatched to a trespassing call. The incident was documented.

Dec. 30

• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a report of fraud. The investigation is ongoing.
