Island Rec’s Children’s Festival Committee is excited to announce the top winners in its “Under The Sea” poster contest.

Island Rec’s Children’s Festival Committee is excited to announce the top winners in its “Under The Sea” poster contest.

First place winner, Jessica Procaccini a first grader from Stillpoint School, came up with a lovely watercolor of a fish; she won a Wildlife Tour for four on the Western Prince II. Fourth grader Ally MacDiarmid took second place. Her winning poster shows an entrancing water wildlife scene and she won a gift certificate to Osito’s Toy Store. The third place winner, Kenzie Serrat, a third grader, depicted sea life under a submarine, and she won a gift certificate to The Toy Box.

With so much young island talent, it was a difficult decision. Many posters were submitted for review and you’ll get your opportunity to view them on display around town to promote the May 2 festival. The festival committee wants to thank all the children who participated.

The first place poster will be on display at Island Rec’s Guard Street office, the second place poster will be on display at festival sponsor Osito’s toy store and the third place poster can be viewed at festival sponsor Toy Box. These winners will be awarded their prizes during a ceremony at the Children’s Festival at noon on the main stage.

The festival is at the San Juan County Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 2. This year’s committee has set sail with preparations for the event so mark your calendars. For more information or to volunteer, call Sally at 378-4953.
