Sixty Lopez donors gave blood – and ate ice cream

Thank you to all who rolled up their sleeves to donate at the Lopez Island Blood Drive on July 29.

Thank you to all who rolled up their sleeves to donate at the Lopez Island Blood Drive on July 29.

On behalf of the patients in our community’s hospitals, the Puget Sound Blood Center wishes to say “Thank You Lopez!” During the Lopez Island summer blood drive on July 29, the Puget Sound Blood Center registered 60 donors (wow!!) who polished off over three gallons of Lopez Island Creamery gourmet ice cream and donated 48 units of blood. The blood donations will benefit up to 144 patients, and the ice cream consumption made for a lot of happy faces!

Special thanks to Fritz Baesman for organizing the drive, the Lopez Island Creamery for donating the gourmet ice cream, the Community Church for providing the drive site, and the Lopez Island Lions Club for its continuing assistance and blood drive sponsorship.

Each weekday, 900 people must donate blood to meet the needs of patients in western Washington hospitals. The Lopez Island blood drives continue to play an important role in making sure that those needs are met. The next blood drive on Lopez will be on September 23, so please highlight that date on your calendars and plan now to take part in that life-saving event. Thank you!
