New Parent Film Series shows ‘Screenagers’

Submitted by Lopez Island Prevention Coalition

The Lopez Island Prevention Coalition and the Lopez Island Family Resource Center are partnering together to launch a Parent Film Series aimed at educating families on issues related to teen development. Our first film is premiering Thursday, Jan. 16 at 6 p.m. “Screenagers,” is a film that dives deep into how technology impacts kids’ development and the challenges of parenting in the digital world. Join us at the Lopez School multipurpose room for the film and a short discussion after with leaders knowledgeable of the latest research on technology and the brain. The LIPC and the LIFRC are hopeful that, by offering four or five films throughout the winter and spring, the Lopez community can begin duscussions around corporate goals for parenting together as a united island community. Together we hope Lopez can become a more resilient and kind environment for all who choose to reside on our island home.

We’re grateful for the support of the Lopez Island School District for providing a venue to show the film and for the many community members who invited a friend or colleague to attend. If you are unable to attend but wish to receive more information on parenting with technology, Common Sense Media is a great website to peruse. There you can research data on movies; TV shows; apps; games; and much of the science behind screen time and the brain. We hope you’ll join us at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16 at Lopez School.
