Lopez Library celebrates Zine Week

The zines are coming! What are zines? Zines are alternative and radical literature, comics and independent publications. Zine is pronounced “zeen” – short for magazine or fanzine. Anyone can publish a zine – that’s what makes them so awesome!

Historically, zines have dealt with topics too niche or controversial for mainstream media. You can make a zine about Lopez Island or about your favorite kind of soup. No topic is off limits because you publish and distribute the zine yourself. Your public library is here to help!

Starting Oct. 16, visit our display of local and not-so-local zines. You can touch and read them. On Thursday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m., come to a Zine 101 interactive presentation led by Jaina Bee and Yoram Meroz. Learn about zines and make a collaborative zine to take home. On Saturday, Oct. 21 from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. come to the community room for a zine-making party. We provide the supplies, copy machines, caffeine and snacks. You make the zine. Be sure to leave a copy for our display! Zine Week is for ALL adults and teens.
