Wenesday evening the Continent of Africa, Ethiopia in particular, was celebrated at the Lopez Community Center. A potluck dinner was held to which all islanders were invited. The Ethiopian dish, Doro Wat, a highly spiced, peppery chicken stew was served as the entre. After the dinner, the Bill family entertained the audience with their beautiful and informative slide show of Ethiopia, Kenya and Egypt; photos taken on their recent visit to Africa by Nick Moody. Comments were made pertaining to the trip by the family which included Marta, Solomon and Emebet. The outpouring by the community endorsed the premise that our island population is interested and invigorated in learning more about the African Continent and its people. This community outreach was sponsored by the Lutheran Church of the San Juans and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
