The 14th Annual Lopez Community Lessons and Carols Service is Sunday, Dec 18, 4 p.m., at Grace Episcopal Church.

This lovely candlelight service is adapted from the traditional “Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols” first held in King’s College Chapel, Cambridge, England, on Christmas Eve, 1918, and repeated annually.  The service features Readings from the Old and New Testaments foretelling, then describing, the birth of Jesus – the Messiah. Each Lesson is followed by a related hymn or carol sung by the congregation or choir.

The choir this year is composed of over 30 singers from several island churches and other members of the Lopez Community under the direction of Karen Gerarden. Featured instrumentalists are Margorie Stensrud on the pipe organ, and Celia Rosenberger on the violin.
