Support school levy | Letter to the Editor

Lopez Island School is known as a small school that does big things, some of which are unique to Lopez: a farm-to-school program which provides students with onsite experiences on local farms, and a garden program in which students grow, process and eat food from extensive, well maintained gardens at the school. Lopez has strong sports teams, a stellar arts program, caring, one-on-one support for students with special needs, fine music and drama programs, and a school nurse with time on site. The levy will keep those programs alive. In addition, those moneys will supply needed funds for electricity and phones. Your vote to maintain the quality of this fine school will not raise your taxes. The state will not fund these programs nor basic utilities, so it is up to us to vote Yes on the ballot and keep our school doing big things.
