Library Director bids farewell | Letter

Dear Lopez:

As some of you may know, I resigned from my position as Library Director this month. After 34 years as a professional librarian, the time has come for a changing of the guard. I have every confidence the library will flourish and thrive under the new management in a way that best fits the spirit of this community. The Lopez Island Library has been like my baby for almost 13 years. It has been a privilege serving this island’s wonderful residents. I’ve taken great joy working with staff and citizens alike to grow this library’s resources and services. I’m incredibly grateful for the ways in which many of you shared in this journey, from offering suggestions to improve the library, to volunteering and spreading the love of reading and, of course, by making such good use of the library’s collection and services. To all my library patrons, I will truly miss our book and film discussions!

My husband and I are both nervous and super excited to begin retirement in January 2020 in Portugal (Viana do Castelo). This was an opportunity too good to pass up personally for us as a family, as we’ve long dreamed about living in that part of the world and fully immersing ourselves in another culture so rich in history and natural beauty. We will never forget our time here in this lovely community. Many thanks to you all for the many kind words of support and appreciation. On to the next adventure!

Happy reading Lopez and please vote YES for the Lopez Island Library in November.

Lou Pray, former Lopez Island Library Director
