Environmental disasters are inevitable. The question communities must ask themselves is not if it will happen, but when. Join seven local organizations at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, at the Lopez Center. This free event is composed of informative presentations by local experts covering what to expect in the event of a disaster on Lopez Island. Topics will include living through an earthquake, your brain an in emergency, community preparedness, emergency power and more. Gather a community and learn what steps you can take to prepare your home, yourself and your family.
San Juan County Department of Emergency Management, San Juan County Planning Department, Lopez Fire & EMS, Orcas Power and Light Cooperative, Lopez Community Land Trust, Shark Reef Neighborhood, Nathan Donnelly of Reverence Permaculture and Preparedness, and Brian Rick, a Christchurch earthquake survivor, will be presenting. This event is co-sponsored by the Lopez Library and San Juan County. Stop by the Lopez Library during May to see its display of emergency preparedness resources.
