The Lopez Island Family Resource Center and the Prevention Coalition will be co-sponsoring a series of monthly Parent Nights, starting at the end of January. Each month will feature a different guest speaker who will share his or her expertise and knowledge about different issues and topics related to parenting. Guest speakers will cover an array of subjects, such as discipline and setting boundaries, building self-esteem in children, parenting and media influences, self-care and nurture for adults, adolescent issues, among other topics.
The first Parent Night will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 24. Alice Campbell, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, will be leading a discussion around the issues of discipline and setting boundaries for elementary and middle school students. Please join us for a very informative evening – 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Grace Church Fellowship Hall.
There will be a light meal offered at each Parent Night. Childcare will also be provided if necessary; interested parents must inform the Resource Center in advance if they would like to take advantage of this service.
An RSVP is encouraged so we have an idea of how much food to provide. Contact Mikah Smith for more info, at 468-2201 ext. 2109 or by e-mail at msmith@lopez.k12.wa.us, or contact the Family Resource Center at 468-4117.
Stay tuned for the next Parent Night in February.
