John “Jake” Nelson Cheney Jr., 68, of Anacortes, passed away at his home on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015. He was born July 11, 1947 in Anacortes, WA to John Nelson and Margaret Jean (Wilson) Cheney Sr. Jake was raised in Anacortes and attended Eastern Washington College. He was a 40 year resident of Lopez Island. Jake was an Army Veteran having served in Vietnam and earning several medals including the Army Commendation Medal and Combat Infantry Badge. Over his years he was a plumber, fisherman, caregiver, and traveler. Jake was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his siblings and their spouses, Steve and Pam Cheney, Scott Cheney, Janet and Blake Adams. A private interment was at Fernhill Cemetery.
