SalmonAtion 2010: 4 p.m. at Lopez Center for Community and the Arts. Lopez-based conservation laboratory Kwiáht and Lopez volunteers make their annual report to the community on salmon habitat research on the south end! Come enjoy artisan cheeses from Blossom Organic Grocery, Lopez wine from Lopez Island Vineyards, artisan bread made by Kenny Ferrugiaro and more local food and drink as well as music and salmon-inspired art from local artists, all to support the study and protection of salmon nursery habitat on our island. This year volunteers caught and released more than 650 juvenile Chinook, collecting stomach contents and identifying and counting thousands of prey items, to determine how well they were eating. Join the fun and learn about Lopez marine ecology.

Lopez Island Gardeners: Irene Skyriver, owner of one of the gardens in last summer’s garden tour, will talk about what to do in your winter garden to prepare for a new successful gardening season blessed with an abundance of flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Loss Support Group: There have been an amazing number of deaths on Lopez this last year and many of us have experienced the loss of someone close to us. In healing from grief, it is helpful to “tell the story” again and again. The loss support group is the perfect opportunity to explore ways of healing from our deep emptiness. Everyone (whether the loss is fresh or quite old) is welcome to join the Loss Support Group meeting at Lopez Island Hospice and Home Support office (178 Weeks Road) the last Friday of the month at 1:15 p.m.
Peace Vigil: Every Fri from 4 p.m. – 5 p.m. (across from the Love Dog) Imagine Peace…come stand in awareness at the “Peace Vigil.”
Tai Chi on Lopez: Tai Chi will continue its normal schedule of class every Wednesday. Advanced at 9 a.m. and beginning at 10 a.m. to be held at the Community Center. For more information, call Terry Marshall at 468-4340.
