The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

June 18

• An Orcas Island deputy took a theft report. The victim alleged an unknown person entered her art studio and stole one painting valued at $2,500. Nothing else of value was disturbed or taken. There are no investigative leads or suspect information.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a minor fender bender at a store in Eastsound. An exchange of driver’s information was conducted, and a report was authored for both parties’ insurance companies.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 39 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was issued an infraction for speed and additional warnings were given.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a residence for a domestic dispute. An adult male was taken into custody for assault, malicious mischief and interfering with a domestic violence report.

• A Lopez deputy responded when a Decatur Island resident received an anonymous hate letter. The matter is under investigation.

• A deputy on San Juan Island received a report of a hit-and-run. It was reported that a vehicle hit a parked vehicle after a confrontation between drivers. The suspect was given a criminal citation for hit-and-run and was given an infraction for not having insurance.

• A deputy viewed a minor single-car accident without injuries at the intersection of Nichols Stree and Argyle Avenue. An incident report and a state collision report were completed.

• A San Juan Island deputy stopped a vehicle on Cattle Point Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for driving 56 mph in a 45 mph zone.

• An Orcas Island deputy assisted a business owner in the Rosario area with a trespassing incident. The citizen was advised that they were trespassed and issued a trespass warning letter. The incident was documented.

• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 52 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone on Crescent Beach Drive. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed.

• San Juan Island deputies contacted an individual at the Sheriff’s Office known to have an active warrant. Deputies placed the individual under arrest for the warrant, and new charges for resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance were issued.

June 20

• The Sheriff’s Office received a report of an abandoned vehicle. The vehicle was located and found with its license plates and VIN removed. The vehicle was impounded and vehicle owner information was found.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of theft from a business in Friday Harbor. The person was contacted and issued a citation for theft in the third degree.

• A Lopez resident reported a perceived road hazard. There was no law violation involved.

• An Orcas Island deputy helped author a report of fraud for a local citizen. The incident revolved around an UberEats application on a mobile device. The deputy provided a police report number for the citizen to help with their dispute with a bank.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a motorcycle for traveling 68 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone. The driver was issued infractions for speed, no insurance and no endorsement. The motorcycle was impounded.

• A Lopez deputy responded when a vehicle containing several puppies was found on Islandale Road. The driver was quickly located nearby and reported having vehicle issues. The puppies were transported home.

June 21

• A deputy was called out to assist in the holding facility with an in-custody person who needed assistance from emergency medical services with the administration of one of his medications. EMS assisted the in-custody person without incident, and he was returned to the holding cell. A report was completed.

• The Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a domestic disturbance. The scene was investigated and was found that no crime had occurred and the disturbance was verbal only.

June 22

• A deputy on San Juan Island received a report of a theft from a local store. The deputy took the report. This case is still under investigation.

• A deputy on San Juan Island responded to a report of a theft from a store in Friday Harbor. An adult female decided to steal from the store while a uniformed deputy was in the store reviewing camera footage from a different theft earlier in the day. A criminal citation was issued for theft in the third degree.

• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a fraud call. The incident was documented.

• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 51 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone on Crescent Beach Drive. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed, operating a motor vehicle without insurance and given several verbal warnings.

June 23

• Lopez Island deputies were dispatched with Lopez Island Fire and EMS to a medical call. The incident was documented.

June 24

• A deputy on San Juan Island conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver was issued an infraction for traveling 70 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone on Roche Harbor Road. The driver was also warned for not updating their driver’s license to Washington state. A report was completed.

• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a theft call. The reporting party advised that he had a package stolen from his mailbox. The incident was documented and the investigation is ongoing.
