Public service announcements, or PSAs, are being broadcast on KLOI as part of a joint venture of the school and KLOI to involve students in radio. Eleanor Burke, KLOI board member and liaison with the school, arranged the recording session.

KLOI has been airing PSAs since July. Local non-profits and community groups may submit information for PSAs at KLOI’s website (kloi.org) and text is written by a KLOI volunteer. The PSA text is then recorded by students for random broadcast on the air.

In another collaboration between the school and KLOI, Lopez third graders, Katherine Combs and Melanie Quiroz, and fifth graders, Alyssa Gallagher and Delaney Ackerman, will read their own original writing on KLOI. Listen in at 102.9 FM on Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 11 a.m. or Thursday, Dec. 24, at 5 p.m. to hear the poems and short stories they crafted in three days of writing class with Lorrie Harrison during Lopez Elementary School’s December Discovery Days.
