Lopez Island
Hi, my name is Audrey Roush. I’m a junior in high school. I’m writing in reference to the Lopez Rec Levy vote.
I’ve been a Lobo my entire life. This has shaped who I am and who I will become. Sports have given me a place to compete, a family of teammates, a way to test my limits, and resilience. They’ve taught me to keep going when things get tough.
For Lopez kids, sports grown here are more than games. We learn how to lead, how to trust, and how to continue after failure. Our island sports stay with us beyond school. They teach discipline and heart. They build lifelong relationships and ties to this place.
The first girls soccer team here started in 2024. In 2025, we made it to state. That journey wasn’t just about talent, it was about grit, sacrifice, and our island identity. We played for each other, for our school, and for this community. Kids coming up behind us deserve the same opportunity.
I have gained so much because of Lopez sports. That’s why it’s my responsibility to stand up for the next generation and for the island itself. If the Lopez Rec Levy doesn’t pass in April, my class will not be able to play its senior year. Many families will face difficult choices. I’m not old enough to vote, and so I ask the voters of this community to vote YES to support our youth and our island spirit.
