The Lopez football team was awarded the John Trotto Sportsmanship award

This 2011 season, the Lopez football team was awarded the John Trotto Sportsmanship award. A special trophy presentation by the football officials board will made Tuesday, Jan. 24 between the girls and boys basketball games vs Grace Academy around 6:15 p.m., at the Lopez School Gymnasium. All the football players and parents are invited to be in attendance for this honor.

The special Sportsmanship Award: The Football Officials Association that cover all schools from 4A, 3A, 2A, 1A, 2B, 1B in Whatcom, Skagit, and Island Counties.  The officials working every game from 4A-1B rates the teams and coaching staff in terms of sportsmanship on a grading scale 1-10 with ten being the highest. They take into account the attitude and respect shown toward game officials and opponents as the determining factor.  Football players and coaches at Lopez Island High School received the highest vote totals of all the schools and were awarded the 2011 John Trotto Sportsmanship Award.
