Lopez Lobo volleyball takes district championship

The Lopez Lobos volleyball team earned the title of NW1b District Champions on Aug. 25. The win comes after what was described by Coach Jeremiah Johnson as: “a long season of hard training and a senior team driven with a goal.”

This season, the team had already earned the rank of San Juan County champions, by playing and winning games against Friday Harbor, Orcas and Orcas Christian high schools.

They are led by sixth-year coach Johnson, assistant coach Marina Steinbrueck and four senior players: Uhane Johnson; #12., Claire Roberson, #2; Jana Gruenwald, #1; and Anah Kate Drahn, #3.

The team is on the road to the Tri-Districts this Oct. 30 and Nov. 1 at Mt Vernon Christian.

And have their eyes on the state championships in Yakima on Nov. 9-10.
