Elaine passed away Feb. 20, 2018, at age 97 following a long and loving life on Lopez, mostly at her beloved Agate Beach home.

Elaine was born and raised in Bellingham, Washington, attended college in Montana; married her high school sweetheart William “Bill” Hughes in 1942. Elaine and Bill moved to Lopez in 1949, worked together raising a family, farming, fishing, developing property and selling real estate in later years before retirement.

Elaine was preceded in death by Bill in 1983 and is survived by sons: Steve of Camano Island, Monte of Guemes Island, their wives: Leslie and Cindy; grandchildren: Brian, Rick, Christy and Rebecca and great-grandchildren: Mason, Axton and Addyson. Elaine sustained a strong presence after Bill’s passing, she enjoyed her “Lopez lifestyle”, delighted in family visits, spending time with friends and keeping watch on her beach.

A family celebration of Elaine’s life is planned for this summer.
