The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following.

June 26

• A deputy in Friday Harbor issued citations to a driver for improper passing on the right and for driving with wheels off the roadway.

• A deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on San Juan for expired tabs and for not wearing a safety belt. The driver was issued a citation for expired registration more than two months, not having insurance and not wearing a safety belt.

• A driver on San Juan was stopped for an obstructed license plate. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license in the third degree and issued a citation for not having insurance and for an obstructed plate.

• An illegal burn was observed on Lopez, and a deputy contacted the subject and had him put the fire out. The subject believed outdoor burning was allowed by permit, but his permit had expired.

• A Lopez deputy is investigating a hit-and-run collision to a vehicle that was parked at the Lopez airport overnight. The suspect’s vehicle is likely a red truck with damage to the rear bumper area.

June 28

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a warning for speeding.

• A driver on Orcas was stopped for speeding and received a warning.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a reported assault at a local business. The victim declined to pursue charges.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a citation for traveling 53 mph in a 25 mph construction zone.

• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a drug complaint. The reporting party was contacted and an investigation commenced.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver received a citation for speeding 51 mph in a 25 mph zone.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for not wearing a seat belt, for defective brake lights and for having two different license plates on the vehicle. The driver was issued a citation for not wearing a seat belt.

• An Orcas deputy conducted a traffic stop near Eastsound. The driver was issued a citation for speeding, 37 mph in a 25 mph zone.

June 29

• A Lopez Island deputy was called to remove a dead deer from Fisherman Bay Road.

• Orcas deputies responded to a report of a vessel trespassing on a private mooring buoy. The vessel was not occupied, and a trespass notice was posted. Further investigation is required.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of harassment. The incident was investigated and determined to not be criminal in nature. The reporting party was directed to a civil remedy.

• Lopez deputies responded to a report of a vessel in distress, with one person in the water south of Spencer Spit. The 911 caller reported the vessel resolved its problem, and had left the area shortly before deputies arrived.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of an abandoned dog. The dog was taken to Animal Protective Services.

• On San Juan, a deputy stopped a driver for operating a vehicle with a suspended/revoked license. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license in the third degree.

June 30

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a theft complaint. The item was later found on the complainant’s property.

• Deputies conducted a traffic stop near Eastsound. The driver was found to have a suspended license and received a warning for not stopping at a stop sign.

July 1

• Deputies arrested a driver on San Juan for driving with a suspended license. The driver was later released and given citations for not having insurance and for an obstructed plate. A probable-cause statement was completed regarding the driving-with-a-suspended-license charge.

• A deputy stopped and ticketed a driver for speeding 35 mph in a 20 mph zone in Lopez Village.

• A Lopez deputy was called about a commercial crab boat trespassing on a private mooring buoy in Shoal Bay. The boat was gone when the deputy arrived.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor issued a driver a citation for failing to stop at a stop sign and a warning for not wearing a seat belt.

• Deputies responded to a domestic incident in Friday Harbor. After speaking with the involved parties, it was determined the incident was verbal and that no assault occurred.

• A driver in Friday Harbor received a citation for not having proof of insurance. The deputy also issued the driver a warning for failing to stop at a stop sign.

• A deputy was dispatched to a report of an unresponsive female in Friday Harbor.

• A Lopez deputy was called about a dog found along Hummel Lake Road and brought into the village. Through the assistance of the Lopez Animal Protection Society, the dog and its human were reunited before the deputy arrived.

• A deputy was dispatched to a single-vehicle traffic accident in the San Juan Island area and took a report.

• On Lopez, a large boat that had dragged its anchor prompted a call for a deputy assist. A fellow boater secured the vessel, and the deputy located the owner.

• A Lopez deputy was called about a boater using the caller’s mooring buoy without permission and refusing to leave. A neighbor yelled at the trespassers, and they left before the deputy arrived.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for expired tabs. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license in the third degree and for possession of marijuana while under 21 years old. The driver was also issued citations for having a registration that expired more than two months ago and for not having insurance.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a request for a welfare check.

• A deputy on Orcas made contact with a person in the passenger seat of a vehicle who said he was waiting for the driver to get there.

• A deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on Orcas for driving left of the centerline. After further investigation, the driver was arrested for driving under the influence and for possession of a controlled substance.

• A deputy on Orcas, who found an intoxicated individual walking along the shoulder of the road, gave the person a ride home.

July 2

• A deputy was dispatched to a report of malicious mischief in Friday Harbor, and there are no suspects at this time.

• A driver on San Juan was issued a citation for failing to stop at a stop sign.

• A deputy was dispatched to an agency-assist call in Friday Harbor.

• A Lopez deputy received a wallet a person had found in the roadway. The owner was contacted and retrieved his wallet, saying the contents were returned intact.
