For 12 years, island artists have opened up their Lopez studios, providing a glimpse into the creativity and work that goes into painting, sculpture, jewelry, and more.

The Lopez Island Artists’ Studio Tour is a chance to peruse local artwork, enjoy refreshments, and buy original works directly from the artists. The tour runs Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day Weekend, August 30 and 31, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This year’s event features 25 studios and 32 artists who work in everything from pastels and watercolors to metal sculpture, jewelry, glass, and textile weaving.

Participating artists are Nancy Bingham, Maxine Bronstein, Wendy Buffum, Kate Clayton, Lark Dalton, Rita Elliott, Tina Finneran, Colin Goode, Marc Foster Grant, Corrie Haight, Polly Ham, Jeffry Hanks, Debbie Hayward, Steve Hill, Tom Hoffmann, Steve Horn, Christa Malay, Jerome Marshak, Daphne Morris, Marlyn Munter, Gerry Newcomb, Sue Noble, Angie Ponder, Mike Rust, Richard Singer, David Svilar, Pat Torpie, Linda Ann Vorobik, Christy Williams, Craig Withrow, Steve Wrubleski, and Mia Yip.

The studio tour is organized by artists Christa Malay and Corwin Martin. Any artist who is at least a part-time resident of Lopez can be included.

Most of the studios are grouped on the north end of the island and in Lopez Village, with a few on the south end. Full-color brochures with photos of the art and a map of the tour are available at the Lopez Chamber of Commerce Office, local businesses and galleries, Lopez Library, and the ferry landing. The map can also be downloaded in pdf format at www.lopezisland.com/studiotour.

The tour offers the chance to talk with local artists about their creations, take a spin through their work environments, and see a demonstration or two. To reach some of the studios, you may have to park your car and walk, so bring comfortable shoes.

For more information, call the Lopez Chamber of Commerce at 468-4664 or Christa Malay and Corwin Martin at 468-2159 or go to www.lopezisland.com/studiotour.
