Mobile Dental Clinic a success on Lopez

Twenty-eight patients were seen during the Dental Van’s third visit to Lopez Island on May 3 and 4. The Mobile Dental Clinic is operated by Medical Teams International and provides free dental care for individuals who have no dental insurance, and who cannot regularly afford to see a dentist. More than $15,000 dollars worth of dental procedures were performed during the most recent visit. The dental van also makes bi-annual visits to Orcas and San Juan Islands, as well as many other areas around the state.

The dental van is coordinated by the Lopez Island Family Resource Center, but would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of the volunteers who staff the van. Dr. Christine Aufderhar and dental staff from Bayview Dental kindly volunteered their time, as well Dr. Steve Wolff from Everett, and dental staff from Marysville and San Juan Island. Thank you to all the volunteers who made this possible and provided excellent dental care.

Many people are involved in making the dental van visit happen. The van was funded by the LIFRC, Fish for Teeth and the Lopez Lions Club. Accommodations for volunteers were provided by the Garden Cottages, the Bay House, and Lopez Lodge. The LCCA allowed use of their parking lot for the van to be parked for the two-day visit.
