Remembrance Wall and Requiem Presentation
June 17, 2008 · Updated 12:18 PM
A choir of beautiful voices will usher in Lopez Island Hospice and Home Support's 6th annual autumn Remembrance. As a tribute honoring those who have passed, there will be a requiem presentation at Grace Church on Thursday, September 15 at 7 p.m. From September 16-18, a Remembrance Wall will be set up at the Lopez Center Pavilion to post names, photos, and memories of loved ones who have died.
Lopez Island Hospice and Home Support is including a musical performance this year at the suggestion of Ginger Lowell. She presented her idea to the organization, which loved it, and she said she is thrilled with how positive the response has been from everyone involved.
Lowell said it will be a "star-studded performance," with a choir of 39 singers. Karen Gerarden is the director, with Marge Stensrud accompanying on Grace Church's new organ and Celia Rosenberger playing the violin. Lowell, who is a singer herself and is featured in the program, said they've been practicing since mid-July. The music was chosen from several requiems from the composers Gabriel Faure, Maurice Durufle, and Eleanor Daley. "It is somewhat celebratory music--reflective, but happy," said Lowell.
The entire community is encouraged to attend the concert.
Islanders are invited to visit and leave messages at the Remembrance Wall at any time during the three days. The American flag will be kept flying and lighted both Friday and Saturday nights.
