Chilean Guitarist to Perform

Guitarist Andrés Cóndon, one of Chile’s best-known musicians, will perform at the Love Dog Cafe in Lopez Village on Friday, November 5. Special on the evening’s menu will be a variety of Spanish tapas–light fare traditionally served with drinks. The music will begin around 6:00pm. Donations for the music are encouraged.

Born in Santiago, Andrés Cóndon began formal music studies at the age of 15 and attended the Center of Popular Music on scholarship. He is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, recording artist, and producer. A former resident of Lopez, he currently makes his home in Germany with his partner Navino Szimath. For the past decade Andrés has performed in North and South America and Europe at venues of all sizes, from living room concerts to London’s Royal Albert Hall.

He and Navino are just wrapping up their 2004 “Toward Peace” (Hacia la Paz) tour of the west coast, from Victoria to San Diego, and will return to Europe after visiting Lopez.

Andrés has worked with innovative musicians from around the world, including Subhira (Rodrigo) Cepeda, Jewel, Amaresh Seelig, Jaqueline Fuentes, and many others. His talent for bringing together musicians and instruments from many cultures results in true “world music.” His compositions range from guitar solos and expressive songs to works for contemporary chamber ensemble that reflect the rhythms and styles of South America. He has recorded the sounds of nature and experimented with blending them into his music, taking listeners on a journey through the forests and fjords of Chile.

For over 20 years Andrés has produced musical scores for documentary films and television series. He received an award from the Chilean Ministry of Education for his work as musical and artistic director of Bosqueduca, a pioneering environmental education program. He also co-founded Mundovivo, an independent Chilean company that produces and distributes the music of artists from the Americas and Europe.
