Learn how to protect your shoreline property from erosion while maintaining healthy nearshore marine habitat for forage fish, salmon, and whales during Living with the Shoreline workshops, presented by regional expert Jim Johannessen

Jim Johannessen, Licensed Coastal Geologist, MS, specializes in beach processes, coastal restoration, and applied coastal management. Jim has implemented and monitored numerous soft shore protection projects on both public and private properties in the region. He has led public education workshops in 10 Washington counties. Jim provides a practical approach to addressing coastal erosion with solutions that protect property while maintaining important nearshore marine habitat character and function.

Tuesday, September 7: 7-8:30pm at the Lopez Library

Wednesday, September 8: 7-8:30pm at the Mullis Senior Center, San Juan Island

Thursday, Sept. 9: 7-8:30pm at the Westsound Community Hall, Orcas Island

Friday, Sept. 10: 1:30-3:00pm at the Shaw Island Community Center

Saturday, Sept. 11: Field trip on Orcas Island. Call for details

All workshops are free and open to the public. Living with the Shoreline workshops are presented by FRIENDS of the San Juans and funded by a grant from the Puget Sound Action Team. For more information call the FRIENDS at 378-2319.
