Nominations for the 2004 Dolly and Andy Holland Lopez Spirit Awards are now being accepted.

The award, which is presented to the individual or couple whose community involvement makes them the island’s unsung heroes, will be awarded during the July 4 post-parade festivities at Lopez Center for Community and the Arts.

The Lopez Spirit is named for Dolly and Andy Holland, long-time Lopez Island residents whose involvement and commitment to the island community lives on through the individuals and organizations they touched.

To nominate someone for the Spirit Award, describe the ways they have embodied the Lopez Spirit: friendly, caring, reliable, helpful, unselfish, loving, generous and tolerant. They may be well known or not, but they must belong to the Lopez community and have, in some way, worked to improved the lives of the people on Lopez Island.

Nomination requirements and nomination forms are available at the Lopez Library, the Lopez Village Market, Islandale, Holly B’s and Lopez Center. Send your nomination with the candidate’s name, address and phone number, along with your name, address and phone number, to:

Lopez Spirit Award Committee

Lopez Center for Community and the Arts

P.O. Box 291

Lopez Island, WA 98261

Nominations must be received at Lopez Center by June 18. Previous years’ candidates may be nominated again, along with new nominees. Past recipients may not be nominated again.
