The Sheriff’s Department encourages islanders to make sure designated drivers or taxicabs are part of plans for celebrating New Year’s Eve.

Sheriff Bill Cumming said officers will have a “sharp-eye out for drunken drivers.” The sheriff’s office maintains a zero-tolerance policy on drinking and driving, Cumming said.

“We’d like everyone to remember taxicabs and designated drivers are a good way to make sure their holiday is both fun and safe,” Cumming said.
