San Juan County may be a thorn in President Bush’s side during his reelection campaign in 2004.

A majority of respondents to an online poll say they will not vote for Bush’s reelection next year. The poll reflects the views of respondents, and is not scientific.

islandsweekly.net and sanjuanjournal.com asked readers, “Will you vote to reelect President Bush in 2004?”

The response?: 184 no, 116 yes.

Democrat Al Gore carried San Juan County in 2000, with 4,426 votes. Republican Bush received 3,005 votes. Green Party candidate Ralph Nader received 875.

There are about 9,700 voters in San Juan County, according to county Elections Supervisor Dan Gillespie. The 2004 election season begins Jan. 2, with the first day to file Initiatives to the People.

Next year, San Juan County residents will also vote for governor, Congress and two of three county commissioners.
