Lopez voters turned down a proposed increase in the Fire District tax levy Tuesday, and elected Christa Anne Campbell and Lauren Stephens to the school board and Larry Hendel to the port commission.

Voter turnout was low, as expected; 36.56 percent of registered voters had cast ballots on Lopez, according to reports received at 8:30 p.m. from the County Elections Office.

The tax levy was an important one for the Lopez Fire District. The levy would have raised property taxes to $1 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, to provide funding for operations, maintenance and capital improvements.
