11 a.m. update: It's decision day for the islands

The Islands Weekly and islandsweekly.net urge islanders to vote today. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Election results and stories will be updated all night on islandsweekly.net. Final results will be published online and in the Nov. 11 print edition.
All told, 37 positions in the county are on the ballot from school boards and cemetery districts to port commission and sewer district commission.
Countywide, voters will decide whether to raise the county property tax to 97 cents per $1,000 of assessed property valuation. The money would be used to cover the cost of operations, capital and technology improvements.
On Lopez Island, voters will also decide whether to raise Fire District 4's property tax levy from 67 cents to $1 per $1,000 of assessed property valuation. This money would be used to "provide funding for the normal operation, maintenance, and capital improvements of the District."
Lopez Island voters will also choose between Christa Anne Campbell and Helen Cosgrove for position 3, Lopez Island School District; Jim Brady and Lauren Stephens, position 5, Lopez Island School District; and Larry Hendel and Kim Smith, position 2, Port of Lopez Commission.
The following candidates are unopposed:
Patrick McCombs, position 4, Lopez Island School District.
John Goekler, position 2, Lopez Fire District.
Bob Porter, position 1, Port of Lopez Commission.
James Alfred Smith, position 1, Fisherman Bay Sewer District.
William D. Ogston, position 3, Fisherman Bay Sewer District.
