Following their exhibit at the San Juan County Fair, the islanders of Navigating Our Future are now preparing for a conference at the fairgrounds, scheduled for the weekend of Oct. 24-26.

Resource Team Leaders have been selected and are working on developing their teams for the conference. Craig and Cathie Wier, eUsers, have begun designing a searchable, web-based Community Intelligence System that will be used to develop a database of knowledge compiled before and during the conference.

The first Lopez organizing meeting for Navigating Our Future is scheduled for Sept. 11 in the Lopez Island Library, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meeting is open to all who are interested in charting the future of the San Juans.

Organizers hope that islanders will bring their experience, skills and enthusiasm to this project.

“The exciting thing about the design process is that there may be many exciting outcomes to our work that we simply cannot predict at this juncture,” said Navigating Our Future director Larry Greene. “We may just be scratching the surface when it comes to ways to create break-through strategies to build a healthier and more vital community in the San Juans.”

The conference will be held at the fairgrounds; the building will only accommodate 150-175 participants in addition to the facilitators, resource team specialists and other Navigating Our Future staff members. Those interested in attending are urged to reserve space as soon as possible.

Look for future announcements regarding Navigating Our Future’s search for residents who would like to receive training as facilitators at the conference. Facilitators will receive free admission to the conference and complimentary lunches.
