As part of its effort to provide increased access to government services through the Internet, the state Department of Licensing now offers customers two new online service options.

Customers who need to schedule a DUI hearing or replace a driver license or identification card can now do so on the Internet using a Visa or MasterCard to pay the associated fees.

DUI hearing requests

Customers now have the option of scheduling Driving Under The Influence (DUI) hearings online. DOL conducts about 13,800 DUI hearings each

year. In order to be eligible for the online option, customers must:

— Have a valid Washington driver license;

— Have a valid Visa or Master Card credit card; and

— Have been arrested and the arresting officer has reasonable grounds to believe the driver was operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs (either with a BAC over .08 or refusing to take the test).

Customers are first routed through an information page to get applicable information prior to requesting a hearing. The driver pays $100 to schedule the hearing whether the request is made online or via the mail.

Replacement driver licenses

Customers with lost or stolen driver licenses, identification cards, or instruction permits can now apply for a replacement online. The fee for an Internet replacement is $15, the same fee paid for a replacement driver license, identification card or instruction permit at a driver licensing office.

In order to be eligible, customers must:

— Have a digitized photo on file. Only the new digitized Washington license, identification card or instruction permit-style documents can be replaced over the Internet;

— Be at least 18 years of age;

— Be an eligible driver whose license is not currently suspended or revoked;

— Reside at a Washington address which has not changed for at least 30 days; and

— Not have received an Internet replacement within the past year.

These services join a growing number of Internet service options offered by DOL, including vehicle and boat registrations, and state business registration. All of DOL's online services use the latest security features so customers can perform their online transactions confident that their personal and credit card information is safe and secure.

The DOL website address is www.dol.wa.gov.
