Students to give performance on inter-island boat

Students in the Lopez School Secondary Choir and Lopez Youth Orchestra, along with invited guests, will board the inter-island ferry on Thursday, Dec. 20 at 1:10 for a special community performance.

Except for 20 minutes when they will be in Friday Harbor between ferries, the group will sing, play music, make paper cranes, and eat cookies the whole run.

Lopez School secondary music teacher Ann Marie Fischer, youth choir director Celia Rosenberger, and other adults will be accompanying them.

This is the first annual ferry performance for the Lopez students. Fischer said she borrowed this idea from Angel Michaels, a choir director in Friday Harbor, who does it every year.

The singers and musicians will board the ferry at 1:10 on Lopez and travel to Friday Harbor. They will leave Friday Harbor at 2:15 and arrive back to Lopez at 3:40.

"We are doing this for fun, to celebrate the season, to get kids together who don't ordinarily associate, to enjoy music, to get kids singing who don't regularly sing, and to entertain the community. Anyone who wants to ride with us and listen is welcome," said Fischer.
